Sinopsis
Eight years after the events of Macross F, a mysterious phenomenon known as the Var Syndrome is gradually consuming the galaxy. It's up to a new generation of highly capable Valkyrie pilots to deal with this universal menace. And if they didn't have enough on their plate already, the Aerial Knights Valkyrie fighter team from the Kingdom of Wind have come to challenge the Delta Squadron.

Episode 1 had special cut screened in Japan on December 31, 2015, it was formally numbered as episode 0.89. Episode 0.89, episode 1, and episode 1+ (Director's Cut of episode 1) were all included on the BD/DVD release of the anime, so viewers could have three different versions to start watching from though there are only minor differences between them all. Episodes 1 and 2 were previewed at a screening at TOHO Cinemas Shinjuku on March 21, 2016. Regular broadcasting began on April 3, 2016.
